SUBANG JAYA, Sept 22 — Umno will start disciplinary procedures against Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah for attending a session organised by PKR to discuss the formation of a new pact to replace Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
Umno secretary-general Datuk Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the party will investigate the matter as Umno leaders should not been seen attending or endorsing any opposition party or agenda.
“We will investigate the matter. If he did indeed attend the opposition’s roundtable talks, we will take action against him,” Tengku Adnan told Malay Mail Online when contacted.
The Umno secretary-general did not specify what action would be taken against Saifuddin.
Saifuddin and PAS MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar turned up for today’s roundtable session on the possible successor to the defunct PR pact.
But it is understood that both leaders agreed to attend today’s roundtable talk based only in their personal capacity.
Following the meeting, Saifuddin made veiled remarks on Twitter to say that even an “imperfect” leadership would be better than the current one that is suffering a credibility crisis.
It is unclear, however, which leadership he was criticising specifically.
Other leaders present here include PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Mohamad Sabu and secretary-general Anuar Tahir.
