From a commercial perspective, Tabung Haji made a good investment. The offers they have received from the land is proof of the pudding.
The problem to be managed is FITNAH.
Zombies are convinced that the government has swindled rakyat’s money through 1MDB.
Until now the spin masters can’t provide evidence of fraud and corruption while waiting for the AG/PAC’s investigation to be completed but that doesn’t matter to zombies.
Since the Opposition and other ‘pentaksub’ (bigot) are intent on bringing down the present leadership, they accuse TH of bailing out 1MDB over such a simple commercial transaction.
Now they also accused TH of fraud and corruption and/or of bailing out 1MDB just because TH bought property from 1MDB.
(They don’t say that about others who invested in 1MDB properties including Mulia Group and an Australian company).
Again, no facts to prove any wrongdoing. Only more fitnah. It will never end no matter what the government does right or wrong.
We must not let fitnah bring down the government.
Having said that, the government themselves have a responsibility to prevent fitnah, even if there has been no wrongdoing on their part. Indeed the leadership would be failing in its duty to ignore the potential consequences of fitnah if what they do or not do next is just for the sake of defending their innocence.
So, the government has to make a difficult decision. The fact that the investment is legitimate and has resulted in a gain becomes somewhat secondary. Now TH has to balance between investment gains (yes, the profit is halal), show firmness of standing by the truth for truth’s sake and potential fitnah damage.
Whatever decision the government makes for TH, keep or sell, I will only support it if they have given serious consideration to fitnah. The risk and impact of fitnah cannot be factored into any financial model.
Harap buat solat istikharah sebelum membuat keputusan.
And it is time for our premier to step it up and quash all these ‘fitnah’.
